EDUCATE
In special programs, UNAR educates both youth and adults about the UN system and
global issues. Beginning in January UNAR sponsors Great Decisions Discussion Groups
providing forums for several hundred students and adults to study and discuss
vital international issues.
In March, UNAR's
Model UN
teaches hundreds of high school students how the United Nations works by giving
them the opportunity to conduct a Model U N
where they work out their own solutions to real international problems. Most
recently, approximately 600 students from 42 high schools from all over New York
State participated in the two day conference at St. John Fisher College.
In the spring of the year, UNAR invites members and the public to its Annual
Meeting to hear a renowned speaker in
international affairs.
COMMUNICATE
Throughout
the year UNAR publishes its own newsletter, the Communiqué, keeping
members informed about UNAR programs and the work of the United
Nations. Annually, UNAR collaborates with other local
organizations to sponsor a UNICEF event in one of Rochester's elementary
schools.
Through its Speakers Bureau UNAR provides speakers to schools and
organizations to present information about the UN and current
international issues.
