United Nations Association of Rochester (UNAR) is a non-profit organization in Rochester, NY, established in 1945 to carry out the mission of and to strengthen and support the United Nations Charter. Human rights and global peace in the community are the major purposes of the work UNAR performs. Working with UNAR is an exciting opportunity for students interested in pursuing careers in global or international relations, communications, education, public service, or law.

UNAR Internship placements vary by seasons, hours and needs. Listed below are several Intern Placements UNAR is working with now.

UNAR Office and Programs

  • Research and writing
  • Model UN Conference Assistant
  • UN Day Conference Assistant
  • Internship Director Assistant

Hours: Flexible daytime hours

Rochester International Academy, Rochester City Schools:

  • K–12 programs designed for immigrant and refugee students
  • Interns are teachers’ aides working with a classroom team

Hours: 7:30 am to 2:00pm

Community Library, Rochester Public Library:

  • English Language Study, writing, and vocabulary
  • Work with young children while parents study

Hours: 11:30am to 1:00pm midweek days

Catholic Family Center*:

  • Refugee case Aide
  • Immigration Volunteer
  • Clerical Support

Hours: Flexible daytime hours

*Note: Catholic Family Center is not currently accepting UNAR interns for the Spring 2018 semester

Saint’s Place:

  • Clothing Closet
  • Secretarial/ Computer Assistance
  • Tutoring
